Please make the hockey rink a priority. The locker room concept with bathroom is a huge perk. Covered rink and viewing area. The potential is great for this sport up here. There are a lot of families that help maintain it already, and with the new boards to protect it to last a long time is a huge benefit to everyone. Like the bear concept.

Words are inadequate to express appreciation for the years spent to develop the Meadowood Park Sports Complex Master Plan. Having been a WP resident and tennis player in our community for 40+ years, (with 2 courts at Memorial Park and 2 at WPHS "back in the day"), it's both wonderful and exciting to see so many participants in racquet sports. While the need for pickleball courts is acknowledged without hesitation, there are still many of us who play singles/doubles tennis regularly, and feel that the present number of tennis courts , as well as the backboard, are necessary to accommodate recreational players whether they are "regulars", occasional, visitors, or children/adult tennis lesson enthusiasts. Although sensitive to residential concerns re the loud sound of the pickleball, it seems that some noise usually is generated from a sports complex having baseball, pickleball, tennis, soccer, and hockey. Since the tennis courts/backboard are already in place at Meadowood, my hope is that they remain in their present location, or if re-location is decided, please provide the same number of courts and the present backboard. And I support what's needed to accommodate the needs of our pickleball players. Finally, as a former "hockey mom" decades ago, I whole-heartedly support a covered ice rink, and whatever else is needed. Thanks very much for providing this document, as well as the availability for comments

Having helped with maintaining the ice at the rink it is an extensive task of removing large amounts of snow from the rink. Having a roof over the rink would help reduce this issue. Another issue is making sure no amount of sun is able to hit the ice. The current set up with the fabric only helps a little. Let's get this done for all the great people who use this rink!!

My kid plays with WPHA and goes there almost everyday to practice. There is many pick-up game from the community and other travelers from the springs and sometimes out of state. The use of a roof is much needed and it would allow the communities and others to play much longer.

Anything we can do to get the ice rink covered and stay open longer in the year is a top priority. Truthfully, hockey is plenty popular enough in Teller County to make a case for a year round indoor rink.

Keep the tennis courts as is, and build 12 new Pickleball courts! I was a tennis player all my life but Pickleball for the last five years and the only sport I will play now.

This field can accommodate much more if it had lights, which would offset the need for building additional fields.

An improved and expanded equipment barn/facility is needed to accommodate all of the equipment required for the maintenance and upkeep of the entire sports complex. Recommend the Monarch Layout as a starting point for a working base.

I support the requests of putting in a 12 court facility here for the Pickle Ball crowd. You need to consider putting lights here as well. I'm not sure how much they get used in the evenings during the fall/winter months, if lights would be required.

Lights are needed on this field, so it can be used in the evenings more.

A pole barn for storage is needed.

Being a tennis player I take issue with comments that tennis is a dying sport. I think 3 tennis courts should be a minimum. I agree with the comment thread that perhaps keeping the exiting tennis courts as is and creating a new pickleball court optimized for pickleball only.

Locker rooms and covering the rink are absolute must haves in each plan.

It is so incredibly important to raise the roof on the rink to extend the season fir the the kids and the community. I am sure many other people would utilize the rink if there was a roof and better accommodations. The most comprehensive plan is best it will only cost more later, and as a hockey mom we constantly see people in the community who need a more ADA compliant option.

The plan with the cover over the ice rink is needed. This will allow our kids and other members of the community to enjoy a longer season of skating.

No new courts. Keep the trees please

Tennis is not Dead! It makes sense to keep the 4 Tennis courts "as is" since they are in decent shape and functional now. Save the money. Build whatever number of pickle ball courts to those specs in area #5 Bear Concept. Obviously sharing of the current Tennis courts will have to be the norm- as it is now - until the new PB courts are constructed.

Our family would love to see the rink get a chiller and be covered. I think the extended time we could get out of our ice would be such a blessing to our community who love the rink! The locker rooms by the rink could also use a facelift and a permanent bathroom somewhere around that area of the park would be appreciated by all. Also, the addition of the adventure course would be fantastic. I also think adding some stations to access water would be great for all the sports teams that utilize the park.

Adding a hockey rink roof with a chiller would be amazing! My kids love to play hockey and ice skate whenever possible, but the sun makes the current rink too soft alot of the time so it can't be used. We had to cancel hockey practice or pay to have it indoors in the Springs quite a few times this last season.

I live at the end of Evergreen and there have been problems both with parking and speeding. Since Evergreen also ends at the turn off to Charis, at certain times of the day cars are speeding either east or west. When you add to this cars coming to Meadow Wood who may be unfamiliar with the area ( it is not unusual for them to park on our private land) I'm surprised there haven't been more accidents. All that would be needed would be a bit of a visible police cars to get the word out at busy times.

“Bear* Concept” not best concept, sorry the autocorrect got me.

The monarch plan seems to have the most diverse and inclusive options. I don’t think 2 more baseball fields of best concept are necessary.

Agreed Janet! Praying covering the rink is a 1000% set project and priority... Shouldn't even be a discussion. Long overdue.

I think a covered ice rink would be fantastic and greatly increase the usability of the rink for an extended season. As a parent of a child that plays for WPHA, I can greatly appreciate the new boards. However, we spend more time playing in the Springs due to weather. I believe the community benefits from the rink and a covered rink would allow a longer season for free skating, hockey, lesson programs, etc.

The more trail options for cross-country, all-ages races, and hiking, the better.

Multi-purpose use is preferable, especially with seasonal differences.

Yes, pickleball is up and coming, but tennis is definitely NOT dead. Agree with the separation of the courts, but would like to see 1 or 2 more tennis courts added in the new location.

The Monarch Concept does not address needs for future growth. It looks like this concept address drainage and ADA access which is absolutley necessary.

Bear Concept What kind of improvements are planned for the dog park? Are 2 tennis courts enough? The 2-230 ft field are necessary to accommodate the younger ages and girls softball, great addition. The synthetic turf multi-purpose field can accommodate soccer, football, lacrosse, ect. Correct? Playground needs to move to a more centralized location. Restrooms need to be added to accommodate the Panther Field, pickleball and tennis courts, hockey rink and, multi-purpose turf field. All natural turf fields should be converted to synthetic turf All playing fields should be lit for evening play

Yes! Pupdates needed to maximize tail wags!

Cover the ice! Without chillers there’s such a limited window for the ice to be useable. Heavy snowfalls then prevent that short window of time from being fully taken advantage of!

As a parent of a WPHA player, a covered rink would greatly benefit our kids and our community. Being able to play longer locally would allow our kids more ice time, more games and even bring more visitors to woodland park for hockey tournaments. Would love to see this as a reality!

As a coach and dad of 2 current WPHA players and having another child who aged out of WPHA after 9 years playing I'd love to see a cover over the rink as we can optimally only use the rink for around 2 months out of a 7 month season, along with better locker room facilities as the current set-up is a fiasco at best when there are multiple games a day. A drinking water source would be great as its difficult to get the players water games unless you bring bottled water. The parking revisions looks great along with a place for people to warm up while it's cold outside. It's been a long time coming getting updates to the Meadow Wood rink and the boards being replaced last summer was a great start, now let's concentrate on the next step!

I would love to see the hockey rink covered, to start poll barn style with medal roof that will last for a long time, and install chillers. These two things should keep the ice longer than 2 months. It would be really nice to have the warming huts open the whole time the ice is good.

Another thing we NEED is drinking water! I can't remember how many times we had to stop at the gas station to fill water bottles between games or after events because there's no bottle filler. We could use a couple in different places of the park, please!

I love the addition of a playground here! There are so many siblings along for team sports and they can't been seen or monitored with the playground way up by the houses, so this would be a much safer option to have a playground added here. I also prefer this format, as I'm not sure we need two more baseball fields. Focus on making the ice rink standard size and making sure the HS baseball field is appropriate for their specifications. Also, we REALLY need lights on that HS field! It's crazy that there aren't any. Thanks so much!

We need improvements to the hockey rink to continue. We appreciate the new boards and upkeep, but without a roof, the season is so severely limited it isn't even funny. We are wasting so much time and money and gas going to the Springs when we have a beautiful rink right here that we cannot use but for a few weeks each year. A roof would extend that and be so useful for so many in our community! Please and thank you! Heated locker rooms and restrooms would be useful as well! Thank you!

While I understand pickleball has become extremely popular WP still has a very loyal group of tennis players. Two tennis courts would cause many tennis players to have long wait times, especially on the weekends. While separating pickleball and tennis may help alleviate some problems I believe at least 3 tennis courts should be I the master plan. Thanks.

Eight pickleball courts and two tennis courts? You must be kidding. I vehemently object to any reduction in the number of tennis courts. Why do you not leave the existing tennis courts--for tennis players--and construct a more reasonable number of PB courts instead? Yes, by all means, separate the two disciplines. Do NOT do it at the expense of long-time tennis players.

It sure doesn't make sense to build new courts for a dying game (tennis ) and using the old ones to make inadequate courts in a up and coming sport (Pickleball) 8 Pickleball courts are not enough for the fastest growing sport today. Leave the current tennis courts alone and build what the people in this community want, Pickleball courts set up correctly. The best option clearly is to make new pickleball courts that are made correctly with at least 15-18 Courts to be able to accommodate at least 1/4 the amount of players we have currently in this area.

I prefer the Bear Concept. I would also like the ability to expand, as needed. The courts each need to be separated by fencing to decrease game interruption. I like the expended trails, as well. Thank you for considering the needs of your community.`

We definitely need more than just 8 Pickleball Courts as we have local pickleball group with 140+ people to date and more and more people joining all the time. 8 Courts only allows 32 players.
Being a tennis player, the area behind #8 looks like you could easily add a 3rd court. With only 2 courts, when they are using 1 for lessons, that just leaves one for play. Last year, that happened on Sat. morning when many more players who work like to play. Last year we had at least 4-5 doubles and 2 singles. Give us a break. Tennis isn't dead.

Is there anyway to add more than 8 Pickleball courts we already have groups of 140+ Pickleball players right now and it is the fastest growing sport to date. 8 courts only allows for 32 players.

Will there be any type of fencing between the Pickleball courts to keep the ball out of others games?

My input is based on 5 yrs of playing pickleball in W.Park. I think constructing a new facility for pickleball makes more sense than a new tennis facility. The current tennis footprint is too small to install the necessary pickleball courts, yet it has proven fine for tennis. Suggest a NEW pickleball court area that allows 10-12 courts. Make them regulation size for future tournaments. IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME! I question the need for another 180 parking spots. Hockey is a winter sport, baseball and pickleball less so. Reduce the parking footprint to accommodate 12 new pickleball courts. You start with a new build so it is NOT RESTRICTIVE to using the current tennis court footprint, which hampers the desired new design. Lastly, using porta potties is not an issue for pickleball players as long as they are serviced regularly. My comments apply to either the Monarch or Bear Concepts, though I believe the Monarch Concept works better to create space between the new pickleball courts and ball fields.

Pickleball Above the Clouds has over 140 members and many, many families and young people play who are not members of PAC. We need at least 10 but would prefer 12 courts to accommodate the growth of this sport in WP, especially if the City wants to host events. The time to build the correct number of courts is now, not years later when the cost will be much greater to add. Using the current tennis courts site for 8 courts will not allow for building regulation courts (and one wheelchair access one that is even larger). Why would you take away tennis courts from that community, as the current plan suggests moving from the current 4 courts for tennis players to 2 new courts. Parking was also suggested as a reason why there is no space for stand alone pickleball courts. Remember the ice rink only has cars there in the winter when pickleball/tennis court play is very minimal. It is very easy to share current parking because of the seasonality of the sports. We are making the parking work now with no difficulty so i don't see why you need to add so many extra spaces. The only time I saw parking problems was when the City hosted their big equipment event and we even found parking that day. In Sum, to provide regulation sized pickleball courts that plan for growth, I recommend building 12 stand alone courts. Please use Bear creek valley courts in Co springs as an example of how to plan 12 courts well. Thank you for using our input.

As a parent of children who play hockey in Woodland Park, having the rink covered would be beneficial to everyone who utilizes it. We could potentially use the rink longer during the season and not have to drive to Colorado Springs to use their ice rinks. It keeps more money spent for fuel, dinners, etc. in Woodland Park.

I think that at least 3 tennis courts are needed. There are a lot of tennis players in Woodland Park! It is also important to keep tennis courts open until the new ones are built. A backboard on the new courts would be great.
