This will become an urgent need, as our unhoused population is definitely growing (just like other urban areas). How can we be proactive and supportive?
Question
What is Chandler's aesthetic identity?
(Note: what was the intentionality behind a brown color palate? What would be the modernized approach to updating our aesthetic identity? Who are we?)

How do we communicate this beyond "consider" xyz? (Do we want to communicate this differently, or keep as is?)
Comment
(i.e., adapted into pop-up farmer's markets, pop-up restaurants + food trucks, entertainment hubs, community recreation that serves the neighborhood with walking-distance amenities.)
Suggested Revision
Suggestion to include more covered band shelters, outdoor stages and performance spaces.
Comment
Yes to all of this.
Comment
Will (hopefully?) assist with elevating families, increasing opportunity for success and decreasing chances of living on the fringe.
Comment
Drawing on this community; providing support so they can afford and sustain brick & mortars in the areas that will seek revitalization.
Comment
Many of our bus stops do not seem to have clear marking, seating, protection from the sun or safe night lighting.
Let's prioritize protecting Chandler residents who use the bus daily.
Question
Many of our bus stops do not seem to have clear marking, seating, protection from the sun or safe night lighting.
Where do we suggest or add importance to protecting Chandler residents who use the bus daily?
Question
Question:
Do we mandate the adoption of prominent signage and art design that designates our historical neighborhoods in this area? (Thinking of Little Italy in Chicago, China Town in NYC, Little Armenia in LA...these neighborhoods have a distinct feel and prominent signage. Do we want this Arizona Ave corridor to have a very distinct feel?

Secondly, and perhaps related (?) could we mandate the development of this Big Dream:

All along this corridor, could a visitor find *intentionality* in our celebration of food & culture? From design, to street-lamp flag/signage, to walkability...

Comment
Yes! What are these programs? Does the community at large need access to this information so that they can participate in redevelopment and improvement?
Question
Can we/should we/do we state in this document what type of redevelopment? i.e. No big box stores (Target, Walmart, etc.)?
Comment
How are we defining "Chandler's Design Aesthetic" in today's terminology and capabilities?
Suggested Revision
How do we increase this percentage?

Comment
YES!
Comment
Would love to see more attention to agriculture and nature - either through design, or intentional urban gardens and planters in parking lots, parks (See: Tiger Mountain Foundation efforts - link).
Comment
(Great design!)
Question
What was the criteria for diverse design? Many homes (esp in HOA areas) are all very similar and feel cookie cutter; curious what is "not" cookie cutter for Chandler.
Comment
So much opportunity here!
Comment
Understanding the definition of "community excellence" -- what are our markers, identifiers, benchmarks...
Suggested Revision
I’m opposed to the light rail coming into Chandler. The light rail is mostly known for transporting homeless and having crimes occur on, or near them. It’s not being utilized by students or business commuters, as in other cities in the US.
Question
What is status of this intercity rail? This would not be good for Chandler.
Question
Is this I-11 still in the works?
Question
What is the plan with this I11 going through from the I10 to the I10/I8 down south?

Comment
I believe this is still the case in downtown Chandler regarding the lack of or easy walking access to grocery stores/pharmacy. With more high rise residency units being built in downtown Chandler, this issue becomes even more valid.
Question
Any plans for a nearby rail station?
Question
Has the city received any requests for treatment (e.g., paving) or elimination of alleys? How was it handled?
Comment
Just an FYI: Six years ago, after reviewing the 2016 General Plan, this pedestrian corridor "consideration" along Chicago street was one of the reasons for my efforts to find a home in the Pueblo Viejo area near Chicago street. Bummer it didn't come to fruition, as I now live two blocks from the Oregon and Chicago intersection. As I have learned, this General plan provides recommendations for areas. . . subject to change as needed over time.
Question
Is expansion of the Metro Light Rail into Chandler a future possibility?
Question
I'm curious as to what communication or accommodations, if any, were offered to the residents in the older downtown homes that exist next to the entertainment district businesses that provide exterior music venues. For example, the homes directly behind The Perch.
Question
How successful has the city been with this endeavor, and where would I find data/information/examples of improvements/revitalization efforts in these lower income and/or older neighborhoods?
Comment
The recommendation for this area plan was a nice one, but it appears, except for the county islands in the area, to have not panned out as envisioned.
Comment
Full range of housing very important!
Comment
This statement still rings very true for the 2026 general plan recommendations
Comment
more resid, less employment needed
